Building Community
One of the things that sets Philly Music Lab apart is its emphasis on building community among musicians and audiences. At Philly Music Lab, we believe that rewarding musical work isn’t a zero-sum game, where if one musician gets a great gig, it takes away that gig from another musician, but rather that all musicians benefit from having a robust support infrastructure and great relationships with audiences who value high-quality musicians and the work they do.
That’s why we don’t ask musicians to sign exclusive contracts with Philly Music Lab. We want our artists to be able to use all the tools at their disposal to find rewarding work, and we understand they may have opportunities outside of the Lab. Our role is to provide a network and infrastructure to help musicians succeed, plain and simple. (And to get you some really rewarding gigs along the way.)
By building community, we see a future where musicians benefit from higher-quality gigs with better compensation and tools that support their musical growth. We’re on this musical journey together, and we’d love for you to join us.
What is The Lab?
The Lab is where the magic happens. It’s where musicians come together with each other, outside collaborators and audiences to create something special–be it a performance, an event, a recording, an educational experience or something we haven’t yet dreamed up. It’s the place where new connections are made and musical growth happens. The Lab may not have a physical space (yet), but that doesn’t mean that musicians can’t still be a part of The Lab through the tools and opportunities we offer.
Tools for Musicians
Networking
We host bi-monthly happy hours for musicians to connect with one another and with music supporters outside of a gig environment. These laid back events usually feature at least one performer but leave plenty of time for chatting and meeting other like-minded artists.
Marketing
We promote musicians affiliated with The Lab by connecting them to high-quality gigs and new audiences. For musicians seeking individualized help, Philly Music Lab helps them build their brand and promote their work.
Educational Opportunities
We provide opportunities for musicians to grow other important skill sets, such as business and marketing. We also connect musicians to teaching gigs and other collaborations that allow them to grow their musical portfolio.
What Musicians Are Saying
We tore it down as always. Thanks again to the staff at National Mechanics and the Philly Music Lab for a very unique experience. We went on on time, and they had the check waiting when we walked in. You promoters need to take notes.
