Alexandra Cutler-Fetkewicz
Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer of Philly Music Lab, Alexandra keeps the organization humming along. In addition to cultivating and managing relationships with clients, creative partners, venues and musical talent, Alexandra manages the organization’s financial infrastructure and leads the strategic direction of Philly Music Lab.
A classically trained musician, Alexandra holds a tenured position in the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and received a Master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music in violin performance and music literature. Her private teachers have included Jascha Brodsky, Oleh Krysa, and Sylvia Rosenberg. She was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2020 for her work as principal second violin with The Crossing, in the category of Best Choral Performance, and is also a Board Governor and Co-Chair of Membership for the Philadelphia Chapter of the Recording Academy (NARAS). As a freelancer in her hometown of Philadelphia, Alexandra performs regularly with the Philly Pops and the Academy of Vocal Arts Orchestra. In 2017, she was honored to perform as concertmaster for the premier run of “We Shall Not Be Moved,” written by Daniel Bernard Roumain and Marc Bamuthi Joseph. The new opera was rated among the top five classical performances of the year by the New York Times. In 2019, she was chosen to be the substitute concertmaster for the traveling production of Hamilton, which ran for twelve weeks in Philadelphia.
Masterful in multiple genres, Alexandra has toured nationally as principal second violin with famed saxophonist Branford Marsalis, improvised in concert with Elvis Costello, and shared the Carnegie Hall stage with Jill Scott, another Philadelphia native. Alexandra is also the first violinist of Volume Quartet, a hard rock string ensemble. She has performed with many of popular music’s greats, such as Peter Gabriel, The Who, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Harry Connick Jr., Rod Stewart, Julie Andrews, Styx, and the list goes on. Alexandra also enjoys performing and recording film scores, and won critical acclaim for her performance with John Williams, in a concert conducted by the composer himself. Her performance to the packed theater included the violin solo from “Schindler’s List”, as well as solos from the films “Far and Away,” and “The Reivers.” Her playing can be heard in the short film, “Redcoats,” which was an official selection in the 2018 Women’s Film Festival and winner of multiple awards.
Some of Alexandra’s recordings and arrangements are featured on “Satellite Paradiso,” released by John Ashton (The Psychedelic Furs), which also features rock n’ roll greats such as Marianne Faithfull and Gail Ann Dorsey, as well as current and original members of The Psychedelic Furs. Her arrangements can be heard on Philadelphia hip hop artist Reef The Lost Cauze’s 2019 album, “The Majestic,” and her work is also featured on the solo album “Open” by classic rock legend Jon Anderson, of the band YES. In 2015, the hotly anticipated live album by Jeff Bradshaw and Friends, entitled “Home,” was released. The star-studded album features many original R&B and Neo-Soul string arrangements by Ms. Cutler-Fetkewicz. “Home” charted in the top ten of the Billboard Jazz Top 100, remaining there for many months after its release.
Alexandra’s current focus is on performing, recording, arranging, and producing commercial and non-classical repertoire. She is an active Voting Member of The Recording Academy in the genres of classical and R&B, and is proud to be an ASCAP writer/publisher affiliate. Alexandra is also the CEO and founder of Philly Music Lab, an entertainment consulting and contracting company she founded with fellow Eastman School alumni, aimed at helping talented local musicians in all genres network and collaborate with each other by creating new performance opportunities for them.
