Chief Polka Officer
A sousaphonist and Philadelphia native, Dan is Philly Music Lab’s Chief Polka Officer (because every company needs one, right?) and jack of all trades. He helps clients book musicians for their events, cultivates relationships with new artists, develops strategic direction for Philly Music Lab, and serves as PML’s technology guru.
As a professional musician, he performs on tuba, sousaphone, and accordion in many different ensembles from the Balkan brass of the West Philadelphia Orchestra, to the polka chic of Polkadelphia, to Johnny Cash tribute band Three Men and Three Women in Black. He has performed with such artists as McCoy Tyner, Christian McBride, Laurie Anderson, and the seminal rock band the Violent Femmes. Dan also writes and performs under the name Neon and Shy, using an assortment of eclectic instruments to play quirky songs about love, ice cream, prime numbers, and Microsoft Excel.
As a member of so many different ensembles, Dan sees first-hand the need to bring the diverse talents of Philadelphia musicians together. Since co-founding Philly Music Lab, he has worked to bring the unique music of Philadelphia to the people. Dan holds a B.M. in tuba and music education from the Eastman School of Music.
